Ortovox Focus Voice is an avalanche transceiver for ski tourers and freeriders who want clear guidance and straightforward operation during a rescue. It combines voice navigation, an 80 m effective search strip width measured according to the ICAR method, Smart Antenna Technology and a large graphic MIP display in a compact device weighing 185 g.

Focus Voice provides spoken instructions throughout the search. This lets the user follow the next steps without having to watch the display continuously. Directional guidance is complemented by visual and audio support during fine search.

Smart Antenna Technology

The position of a transceiver under the snow can affect how easily its transmitted signal is detected. Patented Smart Antenna Technology assesses the device’s orientation and automatically selects the more effective antenna for transmission. This increases the chance of detecting the signal sooner while searching the avalanche debris.

Display

The fully graphic Memory-in-Pixel (MIP) display presents directional guidance and other instructions in a large, easy-to-read format. The prominent controls can be operated while wearing gloves. During fine search, the device combines information on the display with audio guidance.

Searching for multiple buried persons

Focus Voice can display up to four buried persons. Once one signal has been located, it can be marked so the search can continue for the next person. This helps maintain an overview in a multiple burial scenario.

Automatic safety features

The device continuously runs a self-test and allows users to check the other transceivers in their group before setting off. Interference Protection adapts the device to sources of electronic interference in both search and transmit modes.

In the event of a secondary avalanche, Focus Voice can automatically switch from Search or Standby back to transmit mode after two minutes without movement.

App, updates and charging

Focus Voice connects to the Ortovox app via Bluetooth. The app can be used to update the software, adjust settings and check the device. According to the manufacturer, the rechargeable lithium-ion battery works at temperatures down to −20 °C and charges via USB-C
