The fourth generation of the Navis Freebird has undergone a complete redesign while remaining one of Black Crows’ most versatile freetouring models. Its new construction features a 104 mm waist, a 21 m turn radius, reduced weight, a more progressive flex and a longer rocker, providing improved float in deep snow. The revised sidecut increases stability at higher speeds while making the ski easier to control in technical terrain.
The Navis Freebird is designed for skiers who want to transition confidently from deep powder to firm spring snow or tracked-out afternoon conditions during a single descent. Its 104 mm waist provides ample float in deep snow.
These skis favour long turns, higher speeds and a natural, flowing rhythm in open terrain. They retain excellent edge grip on firm snow while providing plenty of float and confidence in softer conditions.
The Navis Freebird belongs to a category of touring skis that come remarkably close to the performance of traditional freeride models. They remain highly efficient on longer ascents, but their true potential is fully revealed on the descent.
- 104 mm waist – provides excellent float in powder while maintaining efficient uphill performance.
- Extended progressive rocker – improves float in soft snow and makes the ski easier to control in tracked-out terrain.
- Progressive flex – a firm midsection provides stability at higher speeds, while the more forgiving tip smoothly absorbs uneven terrain.
- New sidecut – supports smooth, long turns and delivers a composed, stable feel in open terrain.
- Hybrid paulownia and poplar core – combines low weight with effective vibration damping and a smooth, stable ride at higher speeds.
- Carbon and fibreglass reinforcements – increase torsional stiffness and ensure precise turn control on firm snow.
- Titanal reinforcement under the binding – strengthens the mounting area and improves binding retention and reliability.
- Traditional camber underfoot – ensures reliable edge contact on firm or icy snow.
- Low weight relative to the ski’s width – saves energy on the ascent without significantly compromising downhill performance.
- Easy climbing-skin attachment – simplifies transitions and handling during a tour.
- −9 cm mounting point – supports a natural freeride stance and enhances stability at higher speeds.
- Balanced geometry – enables smooth transitions between open slopes, tracked-out snow and firm surfaces.
If you are looking for a touring ski that performs like a fully capable freeride model on the descent while still allowing you to climb efficiently under your own power, the Black Crows Navis Freebird is one of the best choices in the Black Crows collection.
